North Eastern Dioceses: supporting the development of collaboration and federation

Welcome to this website, initially part-funded by the National College of School Leadership and supported by the CES. We offer a variety of models of Collaboration and Federation among the Catholic schools in the north eastern dioceses.

We believe that all Christian leadership needs to be collaborative and co-operative in style and energised by a vibrant spirituality. Christian co-leadership is creative and imaginative; it is rooted in the Christian understanding of the Trinity and the model of Jesus Christ as servant leader.

Forms of Federation and Collaboration

·        For Catholic schools operating within  ‘Informal/Loose Collaborations’: Where each school has its own governing body but colleagues share good practice, work together informally and meet together on an ad-hoc basis

·        For Catholic schools operating within a ‘Soft Federation’:  Where each school has its own governing body, the federation however has a joint governance / strategic committee but without delegated powers

·        For Catholic Schools in a ‘Soft Governance Federation’:  Where each school has its own governing body, but the federation has a joint governance / strategic committee with delegated powers

·        For Catholic Schools in a Hard Governance Federation: Where there’s a single governing body  shared by each or all schools in the Federation

·          For Catholic schools in the four north-eastern dioceses and beyond that are considering collaboration and for colleagues who would like to share our experiences
