Reports from the National College of School Leadership who part-fund this site. Five different collaborations were studied in Durham, Northumberland, Barnsley, Doncaster and Sheffield by Tony Thorne, an NCSL researcher, as part of the Local Solutions Project.

 Barnsley Federation - St Helen's, St Michael and All Angels, and Sacred Heart schools - July 2008
 
Excerpt, July 2008:
 
"The newly federated governing body has come together very quickly and effectively. Its experienced members give unstinting support to the school, but also challenge performance and seek clarification when required. They know the strengths and weaknesses of the school well. "
 
Excerpt February 2009:
 
Governance is good. The governing body is deeply committed to ensuring that the federation of which the school is a part is successful.

Doncaster federation - St Joseph and St Teresa's - January 2008
 
Excerpt:
 
"The federation has successfully provided teachers with opportunities to share expertise and to work with others. Governors work hard showing a good understanding of strengths and recognising how improvements can be made. They have a strong commitment to the federation, recognising its benefits for pupils' learning and for community cohesion."
