The nave of St. Mary’s Cathedral is the main body of the church.

The nave, ‘an unpretentious but deeply religious place for a worshipping community’, is a large fan-shaped auditorium with a sloping floor, seating for about 700 people on ash benches, and two v-shaped multi-purpose areas. These provide excellent adaptability and accessibility ands are separated from the rest of the nave by low rails with glass panels depicting the coats of arms of the Bishops of Middlesbrough as well as those of the civic areas represented in the diocese.

The papal coat of arms is depicted in the narthex, the principle entrance to the Cathedral.

There is also a side chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Grace.
